Selected plays by Sholem Aleichem, Sholem Asch, I.D. Berkowitz and Peretz Hirshbein. All but one of these plays were written between 1904 and 1907. The work explores themes of social conscience, modernity confronting tradition and cultural legacy.
Editor Ellen Perecman is the executive director of New Worlds Theater Project, a non-profit theater company in New York City dedicated to exploring and preserving---in English--the rich vein of Yiddish dramatic literature.
