The rabbi vaguely remembered the woman: she was the wife of a wealthy merchant, who generously donated more than once to the needs of the kahal. Three months ago, she heard the news that her husband had been killed in Mongolia by some bandits. Although the corpse was not yet found, the case, she said, was quite clear. She had no desire to remain an aguna. Nervously wrapping herself in a black shawl, the woman pleaded with the rabbi not to postpone the case so that she could pick up her son and quickly leave this God-forsaken place, where innocent people are killed for nothing...
